TOPICS OF INTEREST

  • Pregnancy - Substance Abuse
Representative Lee supports House Bill No. 2045, C.D. 1. This measure establishes a pilot clinic on Oahu to provide comprehensive prenatal, delivery, and post-partum care and services for women who have a history of crystal methamphetamine or other substance use. This bill is one of five included in a package of bills endorsed by the Mililani Town Anti-Drug Committee.

  • Toxic Chemicals from Drugs - Cleanup
Representative Lee has introduced House Bill No. 2039, C.D. 1, after learning about the difficulty property owners face in determining the scope of clean-up needed to ensure public safety after toxic chemicals are left behind by illegal drug manufacturing. The bill directs the Department of Health to establish procedures and guidelines for emergency and long-term clean-up of properties used as illegal crystal meth manufacturing labs. It will protect children and families who may move into a house, unaware that the house may be contaminated by toxic chemicals hazardous to their health.

  • Pedestrian Safety Near Public Schools
Dangerous traffic conditions surrounding Hawaii's schools have prompted Representative Lee to introduce House Bill No. 1904 with the support of her colleagues. This measure's goal is to improve traffic safety in and around public schools by requiring the Department of Education to conduct a traffic study and develop a plan to decrease hazardous traffic conditions at all public schools. However, this measure failed to gain Senate approval.

  • Mililani Emergency Medical Services
Mililani and the surrounding areas have a large population base that is in need of adequate emergency care. House Bill No. 2126, H.D. 2, would have appropriated funds for a 16-hour-a-day ambulance unit to provide emergency response services to Mililani and surrounding areas. However, this measure failed to gain Senate approval.

  • International Matchmaking
As a member of the Women's Caucus, Representative Lee has taken an active role in finding solutions to issues that affect women. House Bill No. 2050 has been introduced by the Women's Caucus in response to instances of abuse in Hawaii involving individuals who have used the services of an international matchmaking organization (IMO). This measure requires that complete criminal and marital records of Hawaii residents be submitted to the IMO when requesting matchmaking services.
