                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE COASTAL LANDS ACQUISITION
   PROGRAM.
 


BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  There is appropriated out of the general
 
 2 revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $250,000 or so much
 
 3 thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000 and
 
 4 $250,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year
 
 5 2000-2001 for a study to be conducted by the office of planning
 
 6 to define the structure, mission, authority, funding, and
 
 7 staffing of a new state coastal lands acquisition program.
 
 8      SECTION 2.  The sums appropriated shall be expended by the
 
 9 office of planning for the purposes of this Act.
 
10      SECTION 3.  No later than  ten days prior to the convening
 
11 of the regular session of 2001, the office of planning shall
 
12 submit to the legislature the results of the study with
 
13 recommendations for the creation, authority, and mission of a new
 
14 state program in coastal lands acquisition. 
 
15      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 1999.
