                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE HAWAII HURRICANE RELIEF FUND.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 431P-6, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended to read as follows:
 
 3      "[[]§431P-6[]]  Advisory committee.  To assist it in
 
 4 implementing this chapter, the fund may appoint an advisory
 
 5 committee consisting of:
 
 6     [(1)  Not less than one individual who is employed or trained
 
 7           as a meteorologist and possesses knowledge of the
 
 8           history, trends, and nature of windstorms in the
 
 9           Pacific Ocean;
 
10      (2)  Not less than one individual who is a member of the
 
11           American Academy of Actuaries; and
 
12      (3)  Not less than one individual who is a structural
 
13           engineer licensed to practice in the State and is
 
14           knowledgeable about local community building codes.]
 
15      (1)  Five individuals employed by the fund's servicing
 
16           facilities; provided that:
 
17           (A)  Three of the individuals shall be selected by the
 
18                governor;

 1           (B)  One individual shall be selected by the president
 
 2                of the senate; and
 
 3           (C)  One individual shall be selected by the speaker of
 
 4                the house of representatives.
 
 5      (2)  The executive director of the fund; and
 
 6      (3)  The insurance commissioner or a representative of the
 
 7           insurance division.
 
 8      The advisory committee shall meet at least quarterly and
 
 9 shall receive and review proposed changes to the fund's plan of
 
10 operation.  The advisory committee shall report to the board the
 
11 results of its review and recommended changes, if any, to the
 
12 fund's plan of operation.
 
13      The fund may establish additional advisory committees as it
 
14 may deem necessary in furtherance of this chapter."
 
15      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
16 New statutory material is underscored.
 
17      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
