                     HOUSE  CONCURRENT
                        RESOLUTION

  REQUESTING SUPPORT FOR THE HAWAIIAN SUPER PRIX TO FACILITATE
    THE SUCCESS OF THE EVENT.



 1        WHEREAS, Hawaii has been selected to be the home of the
 2   richest auto race in history, the Hawaiian Super Prix, offering
 3   a total purse of ten million dollars; and
 4   
 5        WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Super Prix will be held at what is
 6   now Barbers Point Naval Air Station, on a two-mile, mostly
 7   flat, rectangular track, driving Champ cars; and
 8   
 9        WHEREAS, one of the top twelve drivers from the CART FedEx
10   Championship Series or four additional invited drivers who will
11   make up the world class competition showcase will have the
12   opportunity to take home the largest winner's prize ever
13   awarded of five million dollars; and
14   
15        WHEREAS, the State will get free world-wide exposure as
16   the Hawaiian Super Prix will be televised world wide on pay-
17   per-view; and
18   
19        WHEREAS, the organizers of the Hawaiian Super Prix have
20   not asked the State for any funding for the event which makes
21   this a great deal for the State with very little risk; now,
22   therefore,
23    
24        BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
25   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
26   of 1999, the Senate concurring, that the Governor, the
27   Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the
28   Hawaii Tourism Authority, the Department of Transportation, and
29   the Mayor and the Chairperson of the Council of each county are
30   requested to support the Hawaiian Super Prix and its organizers
31   to facilitate the success of the event; and
32   
33        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that certified copies of this
34   Concurrent Resolution is to be transmitted to the Governor, the
35   Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the
