                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

COMMENDING JENNIFER HERA FOR HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS MISS HAWAI'I
   1998.



 1       WHEREAS, the beauty of our island-state lies in Hawaii's
 2   people who, through their dedication, commitment, and caring
 3   for their communities and neighbors and their earnest efforts
 4   to serve the needs of Hawaii, have created the quality of life
 5   that we all enjoy; and
 6   
 7       WHEREAS, JENNIFER HERA, an intelligent and vivacious self-
 8   described "country girl" from Lana'i, the daughter of Patricia
 9   and Robert Hera, is not only the first person from the
10   Pineapple Island to compete in the Miss Hawai'i Scholarship
11   Pageant, but also holds the honor of being the first person
12   from Lana'i to be crowned Miss Hawai'i, as well; and
13   
14       WHEREAS, with the threads of moral values woven into her
15   message, JENNIFER HERA serves her community through her sincere
16   involvement in various projects and organizations, such as the
17   Prevent Child Abuse Campaign, Hawai'i Food Bank, and Read
18   Across America Campaign, while providing statewide motivational
19   presentations to students in kindergarten through sixth grade;
20   and
21   
22       WHEREAS, as Miss Hawai'i 1998, JENNIFER HERA has traveled
23   to major cities throughout the United States and Japan for the
24   purpose of promoting Hawai'i and the spirit of aloha, while
25   extending a sense of warmth to those with whom she comes in
26   contact; and
27   
28       WHEREAS, following her reign as Miss Hawai'i 1998, JENNIFER
29   HERA, a full-time employee of Hawaiian Airlines who has earned
30   a degree in communications from the University of Hawai'i,
31   Manoa, will use her scholarship money from the pageant to
32   continue her studies at Hawai'i Pacific University, majoring in
33   Education; and
34   
35       WHEREAS, JENNIFER HERA hopes to establish as her legacy the
36   promotion of character education in our public schools, sharing
37   her experience growing up as part of a large family on Lana'i
38   to become a role model for children throughout the state,
39   exemplifying the words of John Keats who said, "A thing of
40   beauty is a joy forever; its loveliness increases; it will
41   never pass into nothingness"; now, therefore,

 1       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 2   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawai'i, Regular Session
 3   of 1999, that this body hereby commends and applauds the
 4   accomplishments of Miss Hawai'i 1998 JENNIFER HERA, and extends
 5   to her its warmest Aloha and best wishes for continued success
 6   in all future endeavors.
