STAND. COM. REP. NO. 634

                                   Honolulu, Hawaii

                                   RE: S.B. No. 901
                                        S.D. 2

Honorable Norman Mizuguchi
President of the Senate
Twentieth State Legislature
Regular Session of 1999
State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.B.
No. 901, S.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE JUDICIARY COMPUTER SYSTEM
     SPECIAL FUND,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this bill is to remove the repeal date for
the judiciary computer system special fund, and to require the
Judiciary to adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 relating to the
fund.

Your Committee finds that this special fund was established
in 1996 to enable the Judiciary to upgrade its computer system.
Your Committee further finds that such a task is ongoing and that
a stable source of funding will allow the Judiciary to both plan
and implement updates to the system, which will benefit the
public by providing a more efficient and productive system.

Your Committee has amended this bill by making technical,
nonsubstantive changes.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your
Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No.
901, S.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Third
Reading in the form attached hereto as S.B. No. 901, S.D. 2.
