           Allows up to  four  officers  and  employees of the
           University  of  Hawaii  to  serve  as  officers  or
           employees  of  the   Research  Corporation  of  the
           University of Hawaii.

HB 307, HD 2  RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION                      EDU, WAM
           Creates a college savings program.

HB 833, HD 1  RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII              EDU, WAM
           Authorizes the University  of  Hawaii to make loans
           and to carry over funds from year to year.

HB 967, HD 3  RELATING TO THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE COLLEGE         EDU, WAM
           Allows the  Hawaiian  Language  College to contract
           directly with  providers  when  contracting  in the
           Hawaiian language.

HB 199, HD 1  RELATING TO THE OLD KAIMUKI LIBRARY               EDU, WAM
           Converts the old Kaimuki public library to a senior
           center. that  is  operated  by  a  private not-for-
           profit agency.

           Makes an appropriation to  develop a strategic plan
           to  fully  implement  the  fine  arts  content  and
           performance standards  for  all  Hawaii students in
           grades K-12.

HB 560     RELATING TO HILO COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOR ADULTS      EDU, WAM

 
           Authorizes DOE to  convert  to permanent status two
           temporary positions  at  Hilo  community school for
           adults.

HB 252, HD 3  RELATING TO DEGREE GRANTING INSTITUTIONS          EDU, CPN
           Prohibits  unaccredited  institutions  from issuing
           degrees unless they comply with certain standards.

           Designates hula as the official dance of the State.

HB 1085, HD 1 MAKING EMERGENCY APPROPRIATIONS FOR               EDU, WAM
           EDUCATION
           Appropriates   emergency   funds   for  operational
           expenses of the department of education.

HB 1637, HD 2 RELATING TO SCHOOL BUSES                          EDU, WAM
           Allows the use of tour buses for the transportation
           of student groups,  other  than school athletes, to
           and from school related events or activities.

HB 532, HD 3  RELATING TO GENDER EQUITY IN SPORTS               EDU, WAM
           Prohibits discrimination in  athletics on the basis
           of  sex  in  any  public  school  and  requires the
           superintendent of education  to develop a strategic
           plan to ensure equity in sports participation.

HB 377, HD 2  RELATING TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT              EDU/ECD, WAM
           Spur economic development and  foster the growth of
           knowledge-payment  depends   based   industries  in
           Hawaii via tax  incentives, special purpose revenue
           bonds, and other incentives.

HB 677, HD 1  RELATING TO AN OCEAN FLOATING, ALL-NATURAL    ECD/EDU, WAM
           CLEAN ENERGY POWER STATION
           Appropriates  funds  to  study  the  feasibility of
           constructing and operating  an ocean floating, all-
           natural clean energy  power  station.  Requires the
           University  of  Hawaii  to  submit  reports  of its
           findings  and  recommendations  to  the legislature
           prior to the 2000 and 2001 regular sessions.

HB 1683, HD 2 RELATING TO HIGH TECHNOLOGY                   EDU/ECD, WAM
           Establishes a high technology  research park at the
           research park of the  University of Hawaii at Hilo,
           and   provides   incentives   to   encourage   high
           technology   businesses,   including  biotechnology
           businesses, to locate their  operations in the high
           technology research park.
