                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE CORRECTIONS POPULATION MANAGEMENT COMMISSION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 353F-4, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:
 
 3      "(a)  The corrections population management commission shall
 
 4 consist of [nine] eleven members.  The state attorney general,
 
 5 the director of public safety, [the prosecuting attorney of the
 
 6 city and county of Honolulu] a representative of the county
 
 7 departments of the prosecuting attorney to be selected by the
 
 8 prosecuting atttorneys, the state public defender, [and] the
 
 9 chairperson of the Hawaii paroling authority, a representative of
 
10 the county police departments to be selected by the chiefs of
 
11 police, the president of the senate, and the speaker of the house
 
12 of representatives, or their designated representatives, shall be
 
13 members of the commission. [Additionally, the] The chief justice
 
14 of the Hawaii supreme court shall appoint one judge and one adult
 
15 probation administrator of the judiciary as members of the
 
16 commission.  [Finally, one member each shall be appointed by the
 
17 president of the senate and the speaker of the house of
 
18 representatives.]  Additionally, the chairperson of the Hawaii
 
19 paroling authority shall appoint one rehabilitated offender, who
 
20 is knowledgeable on issues pertaining to reintegrating offenders
 
21 into the community, as a member of the commission."
