                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE
   SIXTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  The director of finance is authorized to issue
 
 2 general obligation bonds in the sum of $13,630,000, or so much
 
 3 thereof as may be necessary, and the same sum, or so much thereof
 
 4 as may be necessary, is appropriated for fiscal year 1999-2001
 
 5 for the following projects on Maui and Kauai:
 
 6      1.   Hanalei Elementary Site Improvements           $400,000
 
 7           Design and construction funds for site
 
 8           improvements for playfield; ground
 
 9           improvements.
 
10      2.   Hanalei Middle School                          $250,000
 
11           Planning and design phase for new school.
 
12      3.   Kapaa Elementary Administration Building     $1,970,000
 
13           Design, construction, and equipment funds
 
14           for administration building.
 
15      4.   Kapaa High Administration Building           $2,000,000
 
16           Design and construction funds for the
 
17           renovation/expansion of administration
 
18           building.

 1      5.   Kilauea Elementary Cafetorium                $2,200,000
 
 2           Design, construction, and equipment funds
 
 3           to replace cafetorium.
 
 4      6.   Kilauea Elementary Site Improvements           $350,000
 
 5           Design and construction funds for site
 
 6           improvements to include walkway, parking,
 
 7           and other improvements.
 
 8      7.   Kilauea Elementary Covered Walkway             $140,000
 
 9           Design and construction funds for a covered
 
10           walkway from Building E to Building A.
 
11      8.   Lokelani Intermediate Classrooms             $2,840,000
 
12           Planning, design, and equipment funds for
 
13           two-story, six-classroom building.
 
14      9.   Lokelani Intermediate Administration Bldg    $3,480,000
 
15           Design, construction, and equipment funds
 
16           for new administration building.
 
17      SECTION 2.  The sum appropriated in Section 1 shall be
 
18 expended by the department of accounting and general services for
 
19 the purposes of this Act.
 
20      SECTION 3.  The director of finance is authorized to issue
 
21 general obligation bonds in the sum of $175,000, or so much
 
22 thereof as may be necessary, and the same sum, or so thereof as
 
23 may be necessary, is appropriated for fiscal year 1999-2001 for
 
24 the following project on Maui:

 1      1.   Piilani Highway Expansion                      $175,000
 
 2           Design funds to expand Piilani Highway from
 
 3           two-lanes to four-lanes between Piikea and
 
 4           Lipoa Streets in Kihei, Maui.
 
 5      SECTION 4.  The sum appropriated in Section 3 shall be
 
 6 expended by the department of transportation for the purposes of
 
 7 this Act.
 
 8      SECTION 5.  The appropriations made for capital improvement
 
 9 projects authorized in this Act shall not lapse at the end of the
 
10 fiscal biennium for which the appropriation is made; provided
 
11 that all appropriations which are unencumbered as of June 30,
 
12 2002 shall lapse as of that date.
 
13      SECTION 6.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 1999.
