Honorable Norman Mizuguchi
President of the Senate
Twentieth State Legislature
Regular Session of 1999
State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Education and Technology, to which was
referred H.B. No. 254, H.D. 2, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to allow up to four officers
and employees of the University of Hawaii to serve as officers or
employees of the Research Corporation of the University of
Hawaii.

Testimony in support of this measure was submitted by the
University of Hawaii and the Research Corporation of the
University of Hawaii.

Your Committee finds that this measure will allow the
Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii Board of
Directors greater flexibility in filling critical positions
within the corporation by allowing it to consider individuals
within the University of Hawaii. In addition, this measure will
further solidify the close working relationship between the
Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii and the
University of Hawaii.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Education and Technology that is attached to this
report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose
of H.B. No. 254, H.D. 2, and recommends that it pass Second
Reading and be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
