     Your Committees on Consumer Protection and Commerce and
Judiciary and Hawaiian Affairs, to which was referred S.B. No.
2024, H.D. 1, entitled: 

     "A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO MEDICAL RESEARCH ON CANCER
     STUDIES,"

beg leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this measure is to improve the collection of
Hawaii's cancer statistics by requiring the reporting of cancer
cases detected in physician's offices, laboratories, free-
standing radiation oncology facilities, and other treatment and
pathology facilities to the Hawaii Tumor Registry or hospital-
based registries.

     Testimony in strong support of this measure was submitted by
the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii, Hawaii Tumor Registry, and
Hawaii Medical Association.

     Testimony in support of this measure was submitted by the
Department of Health.

     As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your
Committees on Consumer Protection and Commerce and Judiciary and
Hawaiian Affairs that are attached to this report, your
Committees are in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No.
2024, H.D. 1 and recommend that it pass Third Reading.
