In order for the State to develop and nurture a high tech
industry and diversify its economy, it must have a first-rate
engineering college.  An informational briefing will be held to
discuss the need, plans and requirements for "Building a First
Rate College of Engineering" at the University of Hawaii and the
development of the College's Hawaii Center for Advanced
Communications.  The State Administration recently proposed $1
million for the Center.  The goals of the Center include
expanding industrial and academic collaboration; providing
engineering students with a rich and diversified education to
prepare them for careers in the telecommunications industry and
academia; promoting entrepreneurial activities; and providing
technical leadership and expertise to the University and State of
Hawaii.  Dean Chen and the panel will address the College's
vision, needs, plans and programs.

Dr. Wai-Fah Chen, Dean, College of Engineering;

Mr. Tareq Hogue, President, Adtech, Inc.;

 


 
Dr. Anthony Kuh, Professor, Chairperson, Department of Electrical
Engineering, College of Engineering;  and

Mr. "Wen" Nguyen Phan, Undergraduate student, Department of
Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering.
