SB 2837  RELATING TO EDUCATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY  EDU/LRE, WAM
        Requires the DOE to implement the educational
        accountability system for Hawaii's public schools.
        (Mizuguchi (BR))

SB 2653  RELATING TO NEW CENTURY CHARTER SCHOOLS EDU/LRE, WAM
        Provides legal protection for new century charter
        school boards.  Creates separate collective bargaining
        unit for these schools. (D. Ige)

SB 3012  RELATING TO EDUCATION                  EDU/LRE, WAM
        Allows the department of education to create small
        schools within the physical plant of a larger school.
        Defines small school.  Requires the department of
        education to provide pay incentives to teachers at
        small schools. (Slom)

SB 2380  RELATING TO TEACHER COMPENSATION       EDU/LRE, WAM
        Requires teachers to receive their normal annual
        increment or longevity increase, as the case may be,
        for a year's satisfactory service in any fiscal year

 
        that an increase in the appropriate salary schedule is

        Amends powers of STW Executive Council;
        administratively places council within UH;

SB 2264  RELATING TO EDUCATION                      EDU, WAM
        Provides for the evaluation of teachers by their
        students at least once in each semester of each school
        year.  Requires the DOE to consult with the Hawaii
        State Teachers Association and the Hawaii state
        student council on matters concerning the evaluation
        of teachers. (D.Ige, etc.)

SB 2831  RELATING TO THE HAWAII TEACHER STANDARDS BOARD   EDU
        Authorizes the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board to grant
        waivers, on a case-by-base basis, to extend the
        employment by one to two years for teachers hired
        under credentials. (Mizuguchi(BR))

SB 3025  RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION    EDU, WAM
        Creates computerized student tracking system
        (Sakamoto, etc.)

Testimonies may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to
the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659
(toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the

being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the
required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services
to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language
interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for
the disabled), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior
to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

Public Folder.  A folder labeled "Public Folder" containing the
measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for
shared use by members of the public.
