TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2001

H.D. 1

STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

REquesting the department of accounting and general services to conduct a review of employee travel policies for all state executive departments and agencies and submit a report of policy suggestions.

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to allow state employees to travel when they must acquire education or information relevant to their type of work, when they need to visit other jurisdictions to obtain that information, or when travel is integral to the fulfillment of job responsibilities; and

WHEREAS, it is important to set a standard travel policy that reflects the State's intention to minimize costs, while affording employees the opportunity to enhance their skills, knowledge, and job performance; and

WHEREAS, the State could save on costs if it set a uniform policy on employee intrastate and interstate travel that requires justification for travel and allows department heads to grant written exceptions to that policy, if necessary; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS) is requested to conduct a review of employee travel policies for all state executive departments and agencies; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that DAGS submit a report of policy suggestions to the Governor and Legislature no later than twenty days prior the commencing of the Regular Session of 2002; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the State Comptroller.
