HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING THE FOUR HONOREES OF THE 24TH ANNUAL YWCA OF OAHU LEADERLUNCHEON PROGRAM.

 

 

WHEREAS, since 1900 the YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION of Oahu has been empowering women through education, employment training, esteem building, family support services, housing assistance, and wellness classes in order to attain a common vision of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all by responding to the changing needs of women and creating opportunities for them to grow; and

WHEREAS, the YWCA O`ahu LeaderLuncheon is the largest event of the year in Hawaii to honor women and organizations that exemplify the mission of the YWCA to enrich and empower the lives of women and their families; and

WHEREAS, Group 70 International, Sheryl Seaman, President, is an award-winning firm providing design services, as well as creating an excellent workplace environment through a combination of professional development opportunities and sensitivity to family and personal needs by offering a "Flex-time" and working from home system for employees, and actively supporting the community through its involvement with many organizations; and

WHEREAS, Marivic Dar is the first woman of Asian/Filipino ancestry in the entire country to become a Regional Executive President, has received numerous prestigious awards such as Million-Dollar Round Table, National Leaders Corps and Legion of Honor, as well as being responsible for raising tens of thousands of dollars for the Bishop Museum's First Ladies exhibit; and

WHEREAS, Alice Flanders Guild has served the community through her volunteer positions with Honolulu Academy of Arts, Friends of Iolani Palace, Hawaii School for Girls, Aloha United Way, and the Junior League to name a few and by initiating the restoration of Hawaii's beloved landmark Iolani Palace by helping raise both the community's awareness and necessary funds; and

WHEREAS, Clarice Cornett stands as a pioneer and inspiration for her commitment to improving the lives of women and girls through her work as a contractor employing women in the "non-traditional" field of construction, and who has also reached out to female ex-offenders in our prison system teaching new marketable skills so these women can build a lifetime of opportunity in the construction industry, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body hereby recognizes the four honorees of the twenty-fourth annual YWCA of Oahu LeaderLuncheon for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the development, strength and well-being of women, girls and families of Hawaii; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that certified copies of this resolution be transmitted to Group 70 International, Sheryl Seaman, Marivic Dar, Alice Flanders Guild, and Clarice Cornett.
