A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO development of an ocean park at kakaako.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that an ocean park at Kakaako will have a positive impact on Hawaii's economy.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to design and build an ocean park at Kakaako. These funds shall be directed specifically towards the efforts of three specialty teams as follows:

(1) A technical team to study the site and marine environment, and to design the park;

(2) A finance team to seek funding for the project and develop a business plan to make the ocean park at Kakaako self-supporting; and

(3) A public relations team to work with the residents and state and county regulatory agencies.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $400,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002, to design and build an ocean park at Kakaako.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of business, economic development, and tourism for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
