RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Establishes the Pearl City high school cultural center reserve account in the state treasury. Requires moneys in the reserve account to be used for the repair and maintenance of the cultural center, including the purchase of equipment and supplies. Transfers excess moneys to the state general fund.

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Makes the Hawaii teacher standards board, rather than the DOE, responsible for the licensing and credentialing of teachers.

RELATING TO NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION FOR DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TEACHERS.

Authorizes the Hawaii teacher standards board to develop, implement, and administer a support program for National Board Certification candidates in the DOE; increases bonus for certified teachers to $5,000 for each year certificate is valid; appropriates funds. (HB1669 HD1)

RELATING TO THE SALARY STRUCTURE OF EDUCATIONAL OFFICERS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

Requires the BOE, to adopt a classification and compensation structure for educational officers that more accurately reflects the level of work being performed.

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR BUSINESS SPECIALIST POSITIONS.

Appropriates funds to the department of education for three district level business specialists for the districts of Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui.
