A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to elections.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 11, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§11- Election day voter registration. (a) A person may register to vote on the day of any election by:

(1) Appearing in person at the polling place for the precinct in which that person resides;

(2) Completing and signing an application in the form of a an affidavit to register as a voter as required by section 11-15;

(3) Swearing to the truth of the allegations by self-subscribing oath in the affidavit on the application for voter registration or other form prescribed by the chief election officer; and

(4) Providing proof of residence.

(b) For purposes of this section, a voter may prove residence by showing:

(1) A Hawaii driver's license or state identification card;

(2) A current valid student identification card from a post-secondary educational institution in the State; or

(3) Any other document approved by the chief election officer as proper identification."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
