A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO THE STATE FIRE COUNCIL.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 132, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§132-__ Maintenance of the state fire council. (a) The state fire council is authorized to employ an administrator and secretary, without regard to chapters 76, 77, and 89, and at its pleasure dismiss such persons as it finds necessary for the performance of its functions and fix their compensation.

(b) The administrator shall be responsible for the daily operations of the state fire council, administering the adoption of the state model fire code, and pursuing federal grant opportunities for fire-related projects including grant writing.

(c) The cost of conducting meetings and other related functions of the state fire council including salaries of the administrator and secretary, shall be borne by the department of labor and industrial relations and shall be budgeted on an annual basis."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
