Description:

Allows the family court to provide written notice to the district superintendent or chief administrator when a minor enrolled in a public or private school, K-12, has been adjudicated as a law violator who is guilty of an act that would have constituted a felony, if committed by an adult, for the limited purpose of rehabilitating the minor or protecting students and staff. A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO JUVENILES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 571, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§571-   Written notice; schools. Written notice may be provided by the family court to the district superintendent or the chief administrator when a minor enrolled in a public or private school, kindergarten to grade twelve inclusive, has been adjudicated as a law violator who has committed an act that would have constituted a felony if committed by an adult, and the court believes such notice is necessary for purposes of rehabilitating the minor or protecting students and staff."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
