RELATING TO TAXATION.

Exempts from the General Excise Tax funds received under state contracts that are used solely for operation of state facilities. Retains application of General Excise Tax to amounts received by a contractor as a management fee or gross income.

RELATING TO TAXATION.

Establishes a tax credit for qualified costs at Ko Olina Resort and Marina; maximum tax credit of $7,500,000 in any year; maximum total tax credit of $75,000,000.

RELATING TO TRANSIENT ACCOMMODATIONS TAX.

Provides an exception to the transient accommodations tax for dinner parties and related events held at accommodations that would otherwise be liable under the transient accommodations tax law.

RELATING TO THE HAWAII TOURISM AUTHORITY.

Authorizes the Hawaii Tourism Authority to employ or retain attorneys independent of the Attorney General to provide legal services for the Authority.

RELATING TO TIME SHARING.

Allows an escrow agent to release purchasers' funds to a developer prior to closing if the developer secures the funds with a bond or letter of credit.

RELATING TO TIME SHARING PLANS.

Specifies requirements for size and display of signs advertising time shares from a booth; excludes from prohibited practices sums paid for a tourist activity or other product or service offered to a purchaser or prospective purchaser to induce attendance at time share sales promotion.

DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW, IF TIME PERMITS

Persons wishing to testify should submit 40 copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 218, State Capitol 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony should also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.
