Congratulating Patricia a. pedersen, waipahu high school Principal, on being selected as the first recipient of the island insurance foundation's masayuki tokioka excellence in school leadership award.
WHEREAS, in light of the important role of education in our State, it is a pleasure and privilege of the Hawaii State House of Representatives to recognize an exceptional person who has made significant achievements in educating the youth of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Patricia A. Pedersen, a graduate of Star of the Sea High School and recipient of a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Educational Administration degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, became the first female principal at Waipahu High School in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Pedersen has actively encouraged students and staff to become involved in community projects and activities, making Waipahu High School a major partner in the Waipahu community's economic and social revitalization efforts; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Pedersen has remained accessible to the ideas and concerns of faculty, students, parents, and the Waipahu community by empowering them to overcome obstacles by using communication and innovation; and
WHEREAS, because of these attributes, Patricia A. Pedersen is the first recipient of the Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award, presented by the Island Insurance Foundation to a public school principal who is
visionary, community minded, and entrepreneurial -- all qualities of leadership that Mr. Tokioka exemplified within his own company and in the business community; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2005, that this body hereby recognizes the noteworthy accomplishments of Patricia A. Pedersen on her selection as the first recipient of the Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award from the Island Insurance Foundation, congratulates her on her achievements, and extends its best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Patricia A. Pedersen and the Island Insurance Foundation.
