A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT HILO.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the University of Hawaii at Hilo is emerging as a comprehensive university with expanding research programs and newly established graduate programs.

However, the wealth of increased research activity has placed a great strain on the space to conduct teaching and research at University of Hawaii at Hilo.

The purpose of this Act is to grant a one-time request for $5,000,000 to establish dedicated space along with equipment for research in the natural science division of the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $5,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2005-2006, for research and equipment for the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii at Hilo for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
