A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR DRIVER EDUCATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that there is a long wait list and a limited number of slots for high school students to enroll in the required driver education course to obtain a driver's license.

The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for driver education and behind-the-wheel driver training program, as provided in section 286-108.4, Hawaii Revised Statutes, in public high schools.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2005-2006, and the same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for driver education and behind-the-wheel driver training programs in public high schools to allow more students to be enrolled in these programs.

SECTION 3. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of transportation for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
