The purpose of this informational briefing is to review the following issues, as it relates to Hawaii's ability to minimize the loss of life and property, which may occur as a result of a hurricane:
1. EVACUATION PLAN: Review Hawaii's policy as it relates to the evacuation of the frail, elderly, and disabled individuals, especially from institutions, prior to and during a natural disaster. Review Hawaii's evacuation plan for individuals of public or private institutions, such as hospitals, mental hospitals and prisons. Commentary will be provided on Hawaii's evacuation plan for individuals in care homes & caregivers.
2. POST DISASTER ISSUES: Hawaii's preparedness on disease prevention and access to clean water subsequent to a hurricane.
3. EMERGENCY CARE: Access to emergency & urgent care prior, during, and after a hurricane.
4. FOLLOW-UP: The briefing will also be a used as a follow-up to the briefing held on September 12th & 13th at the Capitol, regarding the State's preparedness for a hurricane and to address concerns from the prior briefing.
