A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

RELATING TO SPECIAL EDUCATION.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-     Special education students; identification bracelets.  (a)  The department shall provide to all special education students, identification bracelets to be worn at all times to identify them to emergency services personnel and others in the event of an emergency.

     (b)  The bracelet shall be engraved with the following information:

     (1)  Identification of the individual as a special education student;

     (2)  Name of the student;

     (3)  The student's disabilities and disorders; and

     (4)  Emergency contact number, which when called, may activate use of the crisis plan developed for the student by the department.

     (c)  The identification bracelet shall be provided at no cost to special education students or their parents.

     (d)  The department shall adopt necessary rules under chapter 91 to administer and implement this section."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
