STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

Making an appropriation for a grant to West Maui Soil and Water Conservation District.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  Historically, the livestock industry has been a significant contributor to the economy of the state.  However, in recent years, there has been a rapid and substantial decline in industry numbers.  Many attribute this decline to increasing fuel costs that raise the transportation cost for imported feed, supplies, and equipment.

The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for a grant pursuant to chapter 42F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to the west Maui soil and water conservation district to establish a working group of representatives from the livestock industry and other stakeholders to assist the industry.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $      or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008 for a grant pursuant to chapter 42F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to the west Maui soil and water conservation district to establish a working group to support and maintain a sustainable livestock industry in the State.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the west Maui soil and water conservation district for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2020.
