HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CoMMENDING Benedicto r. galindo, m.D., in recognition of his accomplishments and service to the people of Hawaii.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the history of Filipinos in Hawaii, which began with the immigration of the sakadas a century ago, includes the story of Filipino individuals who have worked hard to become successful as respected professionals in their chosen fields; and

 

     WHEREAS, BENEDICTO R. GALINDO immigrated to Hawaii on June 22, 1963, and almost immediately began working at Doctor's Care Home in Koloa, Kauai, while helping his parents to plant pineapple during the weekends, and later became a janitor at Wilcox Hospital, before being promoted to hospital orderly, and continued to work during the weekends and evenings as a busboy; and

 

     WHEREAS, BENEDICTO R. GALINDO went on to work in various capacities at hospitals in Tacoma, Washington, and upon returning to Hawaii, began his studies at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine, returning to Kauai every other weekend to visit his wife Adelaida Rosemary Baxa Galindo and two young children; and

 

     WHEREAS, after earning his degree in medicine in 1977 and completing his medical internship, DR. BENEDICTO R. GALINDO used his skills to serve the United States Army in various capacities, joined the staff of the Urgent Care Clinic of Kauai Medical Group, became an associate in a medical practice in Waipahu, and finally started his own general practice with his wife; and

 

     WHEREAS, as a testament to his good character and diligent efforts in his career, DR. BENEDICTO R. GALINDO has earned recognition on many levels, including receiving various military awards; being chosen "Parents of the Year 2005" by the Philippine Cultural Foundation of Hawaii; being chosen "Outstanding Filipino Citizen for Healthcare and Medicine" in 2005 by the United Filipino Council of Hawaii; receiving the "Outstanding Community Service 2006" award by the San Esteban School Alumni Associations of the United States, Canada, and Australia; and being nominated "Entrepreneur of the Year 2006" by the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, the success of DR. BENEDICTO GALINDO as a student, doctor, and father serves as an inspiration for all Filipinos in Hawaii and the Philippines; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body hereby commends DR. BENEDICTO R. GALINDO in recognition of his accomplishments and service to the people of Hawaii, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
