A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

Relating to POLICE DEPARTMENTS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§   -    Reported drug activity; officer response.  Each county police department shall institute a policy whereby a uniformed officer shall respond to each report from the public of suspected illegal drug activity, including but not limited to the manufacture, distribution, or use of dangerous drugs, detrimental drugs, harmful drugs, intoxicating compounds, marijuana, or marijuana concentrate as those terms are defined in section 712-1240."

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008, and the same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009, for grants-in-aid to the several counties for the costs of mandating police officer response to reported suspected illegal drug activity.  The specific amount appropriated for each county shall be as follows:

     (1) City and County of Honolulu       $

     (2) County of Hawaii                  $

     (3) County of Kauai                   $

     (4)  County of Maui                    $

The sums appropriated shall be expended by the counties for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.
