A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the college of engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is an integral part of workforce development for the innovation economy.

     The legislature further finds that administrative support positions in research as well as professional development and distance learning are needed at the college of engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in order to enhance Hawaii-based technology growth and development as well as distance learning capabilities and workforce development.

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funding for administrative support positions in research and professional development and distance learning.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 to fund two full-time equivalent positions for an associate dean for research and a director of professional development and distance learning at the college of engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2008.
