A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

relating to vehicle registration.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 286, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§286-    Engine displacement fee.  Upon application for  registration pursuant to section 286-41, or renewal of registration, for a passenger car with an engine displacement greater than two hundred cubic centimeters, the applicant shall pay an engine displacement fee of $        for each cubic inch of engine displacement in excess of two hundred cubic inches.  This fee shall be in addition to any other applicable fees and taxes required for registration of a motor vehicle or renewal thereof pursuant to this chapter.

     For the purposes of this section, "engine displacement" means the maximum piston or rotor displacement as indicated by the vehicle manufacturer."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on January 1, 2009.
