A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

making an appropriation for educational program preparing candidates for nurses licensing examinations in hawaii.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that Hawaii continues to experience a shortage of nurses.  The legislature further finds that this shortage can be partially alleviated through a program of education preparing candidates intending to take examinations to obtain a license in nursing under chapter 457, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

     The purpose of this Act is to support an already established educational program to assist candidates for nurse licensing examinations in Hawaii.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $100,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 for an educational program to assist candidates for nurse licensing examinations under chapter 457, Hawaii Revised Statutes, in Hawaii.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii; provided that the University of Hawaii may contract with an appropriate medical or educational organization or agency to conduct the educational program for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval, except that section 2 shall take effect on July 1, 2008.
