     Your Committee on Education, to which was referred Governor's Message Nos. 342, 343, 344, and 345, submitting for study and consideration the nominations of: 

 

Hawai'i Commission for National and Community Service

RYAN R. PERREIRA,

     Upon review of the information provided, your Committee finds that Ryan R. Perreira currently serves as a counselor at Windward Community College and is being nominated for his second term of membership on the Hawaii Commission for National and Community Service as a representative with expertise in the educational, training, and developmental needs of youths.  Mr. Perreira is a graduate of Kauai High School and has earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and a master's degree in social work from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  He is also a certified True Colors trainer and a member of professional organizations.

 

     Testimony in support of Mr. Perreira was submitted by one individual.

 

     Upon review of the information provided, your Committee finds that Conchita D. Stewart is a graduate of St. Andrew's Priory, who also attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  She is being nominated for her second term of membership on the Hawaii Commission for National and Community Service as a representative of community-based agencies or organizations in the State.  Ms. Stewart has served in various positions throughout her career, including service as a receptionist/typist, administrator-project manager, and service representative.  She has also been actively involved in various community and charitable organizations in the State.

 

     Testimony in support of Ms. Stewart was submitted by one individual.

 

     Upon review of the information provided, your Committee finds that T. Aulani Wilhelm currently serves as the Monument Superintendent of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument and is being nominated for her second term of membership on the Hawaii Commission for National and Community Service as a representative of experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons.  Ms. Wilhelm graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in the honors seminar program with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy and Communications Arts and Sciences from the University of Southern California.  She has served in various positions throughout her career, including service as a reserve coordinator, a coordinator/co-founder of a conservation public awareness partnership and initiative, public information officer, program officer, and project manager.  She has been actively involved in numerous community and professional organizations, through which she has been recognized and honored for her achievements.

 

     Testimony in support of Ms. Wilhelm was submitted by one individual.

 

     Upon review of the information provided, your Committee finds that Marcie Wong graduated magna cum laude with an associate's degree in Medical Assistance from Heald College and is being nominated for her second term of membership on the Hawaii Commission for National and Community Service as a representative of community-based agencies or organizations in the State.  Ms. Wong has previously served as a mobile agent/clerk, medical assistant, cashier, bank teller, and warehouse worker. 

 

     Testimony in support of Ms. Wong was submitted by The Filipino Community Center, Inc.; the Parish Administrator of Saint John Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church; and one individual.

 

     Your Committee questioned the nominees regarding, among other things, their understanding of the role and responsibilities as members of the Commission and what they hope to accomplish during their terms of service.  The nominees demonstrated an understanding and commitment to growing and improving community service efforts and programs within the State.  Your Committee believes the nominees will suitably serve and represent the best interests of the State, including seeking to increase volunteers, companies, and organizations, especially with regard to the public schools.

 

     As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committee on Education that are attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominees, has found the nominees to be qualified for the positions to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nominations.
