     Your Committee on Agriculture and Hawaiian Affairs, to which was referred Governor's Message Nos. 272 and 453, submitting for study and consideration the nominations of: 

 

Island Burial Council, Islands of Maui and Lanai

JAMES BALLAO,

for a term to expire 6-30-2009; and

 

G.M. No. 453

JOHN B. NAEOLE,

for a term to expire 6-30-2012,

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     Your Committee has reviewed the personal histories, resumes, and statements submitted by the nominees, and finds James Ballao and John B. Naeole to possess the requisite qualifications to be nominated to the Island Burial Council, Islands of Maui and Lanai.

 

     Testimony in support of the nomination of Mr. Ballao was submitted by the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

 

     Mr. Ballao is nominated as the Wailuku District representative for the Island Burial Council for the islands of Maui and Lanai.  He is employed by the Department of Education as a Special Education Teacher in Hawaiian Studies.  Mr. Ballao received a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, a Master's degree in Education from Walden University, and is a candidate for a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from NorthCentral University.  He has an extensive background in Hawaiian culture.

 

     Testimony in support of the nomination of John B. Naeole was submitted by the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Royal Order of Kamehameha, and two interested individuals.

 

     Mr. Naeole is nominated as the Makawao District representative for the Island Burial Council for the islands of Maui and Lanai.  He is employed by Maui Land and Pineapple Company, Inc. as a maintenance supervisor and is currently serving as the Pukaua Iki of Heiau O Na Alii and is a member of The Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Kahekili Chapter IV.  Mr. Naeole is a graduate of Saint Anthony High School in Wailuku, Maui.

 

     As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committee on Agriculture and Hawaiian Affairs that are attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominees, has found the nominees to be qualified for the positions to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nominations.
