NOTICE OF INFORMATIONAL BRIEFING

The purpose of this informational briefing is to determine the broad range impact of potential layoffs within the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. The Director has identified 40 positions within DBEDT [to] that may be eliminated on September 3, 2009, and the legislature received information on possible layoffs of six (6) total positions within the Film Industry Branch, CBED and Enterprise Zone programs. The committees now seek[s] information on the following:

 

·         Total number of DBEDT positions approved or proposed for layoff, by branch or division, and projected cost savings for the current biennium.

·         Projected impact of the elimination of these positions on services to the business community and the general public.

·         Projected loss of revenue to the State from a decrease of elimination of services.

·         How position cuts in other state agencies, and the potential transfer of functions to DBEDT (i.e., SFCA grant activities that the DBEDT Arts and Culture Development Branch might acquire) will be addressed by DBEDT.

 

Persons wishing to testify should submit testimony by 4:00 PM on Friday, September 11, 2009.

Please note:  Should you submit your written testimony the day of the hearing, please sign-in at the staff table to testify orally.  Please bring 4 copies of your testimony for the Chairs and Vice Chairs.  All testimonies will be posted on line (www.capitol.hawaii.gov) within 24 hours after the hearing.
