A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO SENIOR CENTERS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature recognizes that senior centers on our islands provide invaluable services to seniors by promoting a host of social, educational, and cultural opportunities and activities geared toward healthy lifestyles.  The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to support the operations of certain senior centers so that they may continue to enhance the quality of life for seniors in their respective communities.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $682,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2009-2010 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2010-2011 to provide funding for grants pursuant to chapter 42F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to be distributed as follows:

     (1)  Catholic Charities Hawaii for the operation of the Lanakila multi-purpose senior center             $337,000

     (2)  Kapahulu center                         $100,000

     (3)  Moiliili community center for the operation of the Moiliili senior center $125,000

     (4)  Waikiki community center                $120,000

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2009.
