HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

URGING THE HAWAII SISTER-STATE COMMITTEE TO ESTABLISH OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP AND FOSTER INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii is actively seeking to expand its international ties and has an abiding interest in developing and fostering goodwill, friendship, and economic relations between the people of Hawaii and the international community; and

 

     WHEREAS, exciting opportunities exist to promote global connectivity to proliferate meaningful and mutually rewarding international friendships, understanding between cultures, economic and social vitality, scientific and technological advancement, and enhanced regional security for the expansion and diversity of Hawaii's economy; and

 

     WHEREAS, showcasing Hawaii's unique culture and beautiful natural environment to the international community would provide economic stimulus to Hawaii through its visitor industry, with the prospect of future growth; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Sister-State Committee under the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism currently advises the Governor and the Legislature on matters relating to sister-state or province relations and relations in general between the State of Hawaii and the states, provinces, or prefectures of foreign countries; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, the Senate concurring, that the Hawaii Sister-State Committee is urged to establish opportunities to develop and foster international relationships, both official and personal, between the State of Hawaii and the international community, including:

 

(1)  Developing, planning, and coordinating such opportunities for the State, counties, business community, and other interested groups or individuals; and

 

(2)  Exploring opportunities to showcase Hawaii's arts, historic properties, and other items and places of cultural significance to the international community;

 

and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii Sister-State Committee, in fulfilling its responsibilities, is urged to consult, cooperate with, and seek advice from any appropriate agency; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii Sister-State Committee is requested to submit a report of its activities, findings, and recommendations to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2012; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, and members of the Hawaii Sister-State Committee.
