HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

URGING the governor to negotiate an agreement with the owners of Molokai Ranch to exchange state lands for Molokai Ranch lands.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Molokai Ranch encompasses about fifty-three thousand acres, or roughly one-third of the entire island of Molokai; and

 

     WHEREAS, Molokai Ranch, which closed in 2008, was a significant economic driver for Molokai's small population and rural lifestyle; and

 

     WHEREAS, the closure of Molokai Ranch put one hundred twenty of Molokai's seven thousand five hundred residents out of work; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State is interested in acquiring the Molokai Ranch property from its current owners, Molokai Properties, Ltd., but would like to exchange certain state-owned lands for the Molokai Ranch lands; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, that the Governor is urged to negotiate an agreement with the owners of Molokai Ranch to exchange state lands for the Molokai Ranch property; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor and the President of Molokai Properties, Ltd.
