A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO HIGHWAYS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  (a)  To assist in the mitigation of traffic congestion from west Oahu, the director of transportation shall:

     (1)  Designate a separate extended lane from the on-ramp at Fort Weaver road to the H-1 Queen Liliuokalani freeway for traffic originating from Kunia and traveling east-bound;

     (2)  Ensure that the right shoulder lane on the H-1 Queen Liliuokalani freeway is opened during morning traffic hours, determined by the director to be heavy traffic hours, from Kapolei to exit number 5, Kunia road; and

     (3)  Designate an additional lane that extends from Waipahu street to Fort Weaver road and onto the on-ramp at Fort Weaver road to the H-1 Queen Liliuokalani freeway.

     (b)  The director of transportation shall obtain all federal authorizations required to take the traffic mitigation actions enumerated in subsection (a).

     SECTION 2.  Nothing in this Act is intended to jeopardize the receipt of federal highway funds.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2020.
