HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE UNITED STATES-INDONESIA COMPREHENSIVE PARTNERSHIP AND the GLOBAL SIGNIFICANCE OF ENHANCED COOPERATION BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND INDONESIA.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the United States-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership is a commitment by the United States and Indonesia to broaden, deepen, and elevate bilateral relations between the United States and Indonesia; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Partnership recognizes the global significance of enhanced cooperation between the world's second and third largest democracies, the tremendous possibilities for economic development, and the importance of fostering exchanges and mutual understanding between two of the world's most diverse nations; and

 

     WHEREAS, work on the Comprehensive Partnership began in mid-2009, following a visit to Indonesia by United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, when it was announced by the Secretary of State and Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda that the United States and Indonesia would begin discussions on developing a Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Partnership was launched by Barack Obama, President of the United States, and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of Indonesia, when President Obama visited Indonesia in 2010; and

 

     WHEREAS, the United States has important economic, commercial, and security interests in Indonesia, which is a linchpin of regional security due to its strategic location astride a number of key international maritime straits, particularly the Malacca Strait; and

 

     WHEREAS, Indonesia began sending tourists to Hawaii in 2013, and the number of tourists is expected to grow with our relations in the future; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, the Senate concurring, that the Legislature recognizes and commends the United States-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership and the global significance of enhanced cooperation between the United States and Indonesia; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, the President of Indonesia, the United States Secretary of State, the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, the Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, the Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and the Co-Chairs of the Board of Trustees of the United States-Indonesia Society.
