relating to health.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to improve the overall health of Hawaii's population and reduce the incidence of cervical and other cancers by requiring the department of education, in collaboration with the department of health, to provide, without charge, accurate educational information on human papillomavirus, the link between human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer, and the availability of human papillomavirus immunizations to the parents of all public school students in sixth grade.

SECTION 2.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to subpart C of part II to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§302A-     Human papillomavirus; information.  Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, the department shall annually provide to each parent or legal guardian of a student who is entering sixth grade information on the availability of vaccination against human papillomavirus, as recommended by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.  Such information shall be approved by the department of health prior to dissemination and shall include, at a minimum, the connection between human papillomavirus and cervical cancer, as well as other cancers and diseases.  The information shall also notify the parent or legal guardian that a vaccine is available to help prevent human papillomavirus infection and that the Advisory Committee recommends that the vaccination process be completed before the student enters seventh grade."

SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
