HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PERFORM A FEASIBILITY STUDY on THE INSTALLATION OF A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION OF Omaopio Road AND Kula Highway AS A MEANS TO IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, residents and visitors use Kula Highway on the island of Maui; and

 

     WHEREAS, Kula Highway is the primary motor vehicle thoroughfare that connects Kahului with Pukalani, Kula, and Keokea; and

 

     WHEREAS, crowded highways and speeding drivers can contribute substantially to traffic accidents and injuries; and

 

     WHEREAS, the safety of commuters driving along Kula Highway is of great concern; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Transportation is requested to perform a feasibility study on the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Omaopio Road and Kula Highway as a means to improve public safety; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is requested to submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of the Regular Session of 2017; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation and the Mayor of the County of Maui.
