HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

Requesting the Department of Transportation to Perform a Feasibility Study on the Installation of a Traffic Light at the Intersection of Haleakala Highway and Old Haleakala Highway as a Means to Improve Public Safety.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Haleakala Highway and Old Haleakala Highway are important thoroughfares used by residents and visitors on the island of Maui; and

 

     WHEREAS, unclear traffic patterns and speeding drivers can contribute substantially to traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities; and

 

     WHEREAS, the safety of commuters driving along Haleakala Highway and Old Haleakala Highway is of great concern; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2017, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Transportation is requested to perform a feasibility study on the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Haleakala Highway and Old Haleakala Highway as a means to improve public safety; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is requested to submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of the Regular Session of 2019; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation and the Mayor of the County of Maui.
