Home Schooling; Textbooks


DESCRIPTION:
Allows a home schooled child to purchase any textbook formerly
used, in use, or to be used by the school that the child would
otherwise be required to attend, contingent on the availability

                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO HOME SCHOOLING.
 


BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated
 
 3 and to read as follows:
 
 4      "�302A-     Home schooling; purchase of text from
 
 5 department.  If notification of intent to home school has been
 
 6 submitted to the principal of the public school that a child
 
 7 would otherwise be required to attend in accordance with
 
 8 department rules, then any textbook formerly used, in use, or to
 
 9 be used by the school may be purchased from the school by the
 
10 home schooled child, contingent on the availability of textbooks
 
11 for students who attend or will attend the school; provided that
 
12 nothing in this section shall be construed to require a school to
 
13 make a special purchase of a textbook in order to provide a home
 
14 schooled child with a textbook formerly used, in use, or to be
 
15 used by the school."
 
16      SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.
 
17      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
