                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE HAWAII TOURISM AUTHORITY.
 


BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 201B-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:
 
 3      "(b)  The authority shall be headed by a board of directors
 
 4 which consists of [ten] eleven public, voting members, [one
 
 5 public, nonvoting member, one] and two ex officio voting [member,
 
 6 and one ex officio nonvoting member;] members; provided that:  
 
 7      (1)  [Ten] Eleven public, voting members shall be appointed
 
 8           by the governor as provided in section 26-34, except as
 
 9           otherwise provided by law; 
 
10      (2)  The [ten] eleven public, voting members shall be
 
11           composed of one representative each from the city and
 
12           county of Honolulu and the counties of Hawaii, Kauai,
 
13           and Maui; the remaining public members shall be
 
14           appointed at-large;
 
15      (3)  Of the [ten] eleven public, voting members, two shall
 
16           be appointed by the governor from a list of three names
 
17           nominated by the president of the senate, and two shall
 
18           be appointed by the governor from a list of three names
 
19           nominated by the speaker of the house of

 1           representatives; 
 
 2      (4)  At least six of the [ten] eleven public, voting members
 
 3           shall have knowledge, experience, and expertise in the
 
 4           area of visitor industry management, marketing and
 
 5           promotion; 
 
 6      (5)  The governor shall make appointments to ensure the
 
 7           fulfillment of all requirements; 
 
 8      (6)  The director of business, economic development, and
 
 9           tourism, or a designated representative, [shall be an
 
10           ex officio voting member; 
 
11      (7)  The] and the director of transportation or a designated
 
12           representative, shall be [an] ex officio [nonvoting
 
13           member; and 
 
14      (8)  The governor shall appoint a public, nonvoting member.]
 
15           voting members."
 
16      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
17 New statutory material is underscored.
 
18      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
