Sir:

     Your Committee on Public Safety and Military Affairs, to
which was referred H.R. No. 26 entitled:

     "HOUSE RESOLUTION SUPPORTING APPROVAL OF THE FORD ISLAND
     DEVELOPMENT PROJECT BY THE U.S. CONGRESS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this resolution is to support and request the
approval by the U.S. Congress of the Ford Island development
project.  This project is a public/private funded venture that
would provide family housing units, operational facilities,
bachelor quarters, a conference center, and other cultural and
visitor attractions.

     Testimony was received from the Hawaii Business Roundtable
and the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii in support of this measure.

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Public Safety and Military Affairs that is attached
to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and
purpose of H.R. No. 26, and recommends that it be referred to the
Committee on Finance.
