Sir:

Your Committee on Economic Development, to which was
referred S.C.R. No. 85 entitled:

"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE EXTENSION OF
THE COMMISSION TO ESTABLISH THE HAWAII SPORTS HALL OF FAME,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to request the extension of
the Commission to establish the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame until
June 9, 2001.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure
from Bank of Hawaii.

Your Committee finds that the Commission and its dedicated
volunteers have established the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame,
honored fifty-seven sports heroes, created a website and cyber-
museum, and launched a series of displays to commemorate the
achievements of Hawaii's sports legends. Your Committee further
finds that the Commission relies on private contributions,
fundraising activities, and volunteers to accomplish its work.

Your Committee supports the continued work of the Commission
to ensure the preservation of Hawaii's sports legends and history
for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.
