HB 1213    RELATING TO HIGHWAYS                      CPC/EEP, FIN
        Clarifies   who   is   responsible   for   payment  of
        undergrounding  utility  facilities  along federal-aid
        highways.

 
HB 1073    RELATING TO TELEMARKETING FRAUD                CPC/JHA
        Specifies and prohibits  telemarketing fraud practices
        ommitted by and against Hawaii citizens.

HB 850     RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE       CPC/JHA, FIN
        Extends amnesty period for  uninsured motorists.  Adds
        other grounds subject to amnesty.  Eliminates proof of
        insurance as grounds for license suspension.

HB 19      RELATING TO LIQUOR LICENSES                    CPC/JHA
        Adds to the  factors  that  the  liquor commission may
        consider in its revocation or suspension of renewal of
        existing liquor license, the prevention of assault.

HB 1491    RELATING TO SUBPOENAS                          CPC/JHA
        Permits use of  an  administrative  subpoena issued by
        the  attorney  general  or  trial  subpoena  to obtain
        records  or   other   information   pertaining   to  a
        subscriber or  customer  of  a  provider of electronic
        communications   or    remote    computing   services.
        Clarifies information to be obtained.

HB 158     IDENTITY THEFT                                 CPC/JHA
        Makes the offense of identity theft a class B felony.

HB 41      RELATING TO THE HAWAII PENAL CODE              CPC/JHA
        Makes it a misdemeanor for  a  person to: (1) issue or
        sell tickets  to  an  event  without  printing  on the
        tickets the price of  the  ticket and the seat number,
        if any; (2) charge for  admission  to an event a price
        greater than the price advertised or stated on tickets
        issued for the event; (3) sell a ticket to an event at
        a price greater than the price charged at the place of
        admission or printed on the  ticket; (4) sell a ticket
        in violation  of  conditions  restricting the ticket's
        transfer; or (5) permit  the  sale  of  a ticket to an
        event at a price greater than the price printed on the
        ticket.

HB 1626    RELATING TO REVISED UNIFORM COMMERCIAL CODE
        ARTICLE 9--SECURED TRANSACTIONS                CPC/JHA
        Adopts revised  (1998)  version  of Uniform Commercial
        Code (secured transactions).

HB 1533    RELATING TO PAWNBROKERS                   CPC/JHA, FIN
        Adds more penalties against pawnbrokers for failure to
        comply with their  licensing  laws.  Defines "suitable
        person".  Allows customer to make the choice of remedy
        where pawnbroker is liable.

HB 1541    RELATING TO PAWNBROKERS                            CPC
        Requires all pawn transactions to be on a computerized
        form.

 
HB 1689    RELATING TO THE LEASEHOLD REDEMPTIONS    CPC, JHA, FIN
        Provides that any  lessee  under  a long-term lease of
        residential or commercial land shall have the right to
        purchase  the  fee  simple   title  to  such  land  by
        providing for redemption of  the  land by the adoption
        of the Maryland redemption formula.

HB 1649    RELATING TO THE CONVEYANCE TAX                CPC, FIN
        Exempts from  the  conveyance  tax  transfers  of real
        property from an individual  to a corporation, limited
        liability company, or partnership that is wholly owned
        by  the  individual;  or  transfers  between  a parent
        company and its wholly owned subsidiary.

HB 411     RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES                         CPC
        Allows a consumer to cancel  a contract to purchase or
        lease a new vehicle  within  three calendar days after
        execution of the contract.
