S.B. 1103  EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION FOR STATE GOVERNMENT  EDU, WAM
        TO IMPLEMENT YEAR 2000 COMPLIANCE EFFORTS
        Appropriates funding for continued support of the
        State's computer systems for Year 2000 compliance.

S.B. 1269  EMERGENCY APPROPRIATIONS FOR EDUCATION     EDU, WAM
        Provides an additional 283 permanent positions and
        $11,100,000 of operating funds to the Dept. of
        Education for fiscal year 1998-99.    (MIZUGUCHI, B/R)

S.B. 1183  EMERGENCY APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE UNIVERSITY EDU, WAM
        OF HAWAII
        Enables the U.H. to meet its general fund fiscal
        obligations under HRS Chpt. 304 in fiscal year 1998-99
        by addressing the budgetary shortfall resulting from
        the transfer of fiscal year 1997-98 encumbrances to
        fiscal year 1998-99 which was necessitated by the U.H.
        having to pay its faculty members on 6/30/98 instead
        of on 7/1/98.

        OF HAWAII
        Allows the State Dept. of the Attorney General to
        provide legal representation to the U.H., upon the
        request of the U.H. Board of Regents, in the same
        manner and extent as other State agencies.

S.B. 1184  MANAGEMENT OF FINANCING AGREEMENTS FOR THE  EDU, WAM
        UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII
        Allows the U.H. Board of Regents to approve its own
        financing agreements as defined under HRS Chpt. 37D,
        where the principal amount does not exceed $3,000,000.

S.B. 1185  THE STATE AQUARIUM                         EDU, WAM
        Changes the deadline for transition to nonprofit
        management of the State Aquarium from 6/30/99 to

S.B. 1299  PROGRAM EXECUTION                          EDU, WAM
        Streamlines government operations by removing an
        unnecessary reporting requirement from the U.H.

S.B. 1138  THE HAWAII PUBLIC BROADCASTING AUTHORITY   EDU, WAM
        Transfers all licenses, assets, responsibilities, and
        functions of the Hawaii Public Broadcasting Authority
        to the Hawaii Public Television Foundation, a not-for-
        profit organization under Sec. 501(c)(3) of the
        Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.

S.B. 1154  THE LIBRARY ENHANCED SERVICES PROGRAM      EDU, WAM
        Continues the Enhanced Services Program through
        7/1/2002.                             (MIZUGUCHI, B/R)

S.B. 1155  REALLOCATION OF VACANT LIBRARY POSITIONS   EDU, WAM
        Extends already-existing authority of the State
        Librarian to administratively reallocate vacant
        positions and to establish temporary positions for
        three years, until 2002.

S.B. 1156  COST-RECOVERY FEES FOR DELINQUENT          EDU, WAM
        Grants the Board of Education the authority to
        establish a fee of not more than $10 to be added to
        delinquent patron accounts at the time they are
        referred to a collection agency.

S.B. 1157  THE STATE LIBRARIAN                        EDU, WAM
        Authorizes the Board of Education to appoint the State
        Librarian and to set forth terms and conditions of

hours prior to the hearing. Please punch three (3) holes on the
left side of 10 copies and two (2) holes on the top of 15 copies
of your testimony.  Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5
pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-
6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least
24 hours prior to the hearing.  When faxing, please indicate to
whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the
hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services
to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language
interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for
the disabled), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior
to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

Public Folder.  A folder labeled "Public Folder" containing the
measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for
shared use by members of the public.
