                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PACON INTERNATIONAL.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  PACON is the short title of the Pacific Congress
 
 2 on Marine Science and Technology.  The Hawaii chapter of PACON
 
 3 INTERNATIONAL has been incorporated in the State to support the
 
 4 international and local programs for its membership of ocean
 
 5 scientists, engineers, and educators residing in Hawaii.  The
 
 6 Hawaii chapter supports their dialogue with the international
 
 7 community through its membership in PACON INTERNATIONAL.  The
 
 8 primary activity of PACON INTERNATIONAL is to sponsor a major
 
 9 international ocean science and technology meeting every two
 
10 years.  
 
11      The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds toward and
 
12 to express strong legislative support for PACON INTERNATIONAL. 
 
13      SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general
 
14 revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of [$80,000] $1 or so
 
15 much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000 and
 
16 the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal
 
17 year 2000-2001 to support the activities of PACON INTERNATIONAL.

 1      SECTION 3.  The sums appropriated shall be expended by the
 
 2 department of business, economic development, and tourism for the
 
 3 purposes of this Act.
 
 4      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 1999.
